Why Walk?

  • Nearly 50 million Americans live with an autoimmune disease—that’s about 1 in 5 people in the U.S.
  • Autoimmune diseases are rising at an alarming rate, increasing by 3–12% every year.
  • More than 100 autoimmune diseases have been identified—and the list keeps growing.
  • There are no cures for any autoimmune disease.
  • Autoimmune diseases cost the U.S. an estimated $180 billion annually in direct healthcare—plus billions more in lost productivity.
  • Diagnosis is challenging—it takes an average of 4.5 years and visits to four different doctors to get an accurate diagnosis.
  • About 1 in 4 patients with an autoimmune disease will go on to develop at least one more.
